"In every object there is inexhaustible meaning, the eye sees in it what the eye brings means to see." --Thomas Carlyle This work is about the representation of abstract ideas within a visual form. By combining objects, imagery and text, I aim to evoke our natural tendency to create narratives and dip into a pictorial unconscious. With a degenerative eye condition I find myself compelled to explore the effects ones current reality has on visual story. Even in the minds eye an image cannot remain static, each new experience infuses with that which we already know. I achieve a desired result through manipulating and layering a variety of mediums including photo transfers, found objects, gouache, fibers, oil and soft pastels as well as handmade papers, wire and wood. I typically work in a small, intimate format that suits both subject matter and my available field of vision. |
